- NATIVITY: Japan.
- GROWTH HABIT: Broad pyramidal.
- SIZE: 30'.
- HARDINESS: Zone 7 - 9.
- CULTURE: Sun with moist well drained soils. Avoid sweeping winter winds.
- LANDSCAPE USE: Good evergreen specimen with tight habit.
- FOLIAGE: Spirally arranged but spreading in a horizontal plane. Needle-like leaves 3/4 - 1" long and sharply pointed at the apex. Foliage dark green with two stomatal bands beneath. Crushed needles are quite aromatic.
- BUDS: Ovate with keeled scales.
- BARK: Two-year-old stems are reddish brown.
- FRUIT: Ellipsoidal, fleshy cone, about 1 - 1 1/4" long.
- PROPAGATION: Seed, cuttings.
- PESTS: None serious.
