Sure you can. If the total current from the appliances plugged into the power strip exceeds the posted capacity, you can easily blow a fuse. Always check the specifications on the packaging or the identification plate on the bottom side of the strip before loading it up to capacity.
As a general rule, appliances such as refrigerators, fans and stereo equipment should not be plugged into power strips, says GE's Bunton.
