Fall 2010 September 17, 2010 PLANT AND SOIL SCIENCES SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Attendees: Jerry Hendricks, Nancy Gregory, Kun Huang, Melody Phillips, Krista Murray The meeting was called to order at 1:05 pm. Jerry welcomed the new committee members and explained the duties and responsibilities. Old Business: EHS conducted the summer lab inspections in August and we need to follow up on deficiencies noted. Assignments were made, but meetings notes were lost, so we will assign again in this meeting. New Business: It was noted that laboratory waste streams are confusing and that a general training would be useful for the department or whole college. A fire extinguisher training would also be helpful. We will try to schedule both with EHS in the near future. Krista Murray announcements: New EHS Director started on Sept 1. Michael Gladle plans on meeting with each department to introduce himself. Kevin Eichenger distributed an article about a lab safety incident at the University of Texas. The Chemical Safety Board cited 20 violations, many relevant to our own situation. EHS Assistant has been expanded to include lab inspections and Bio registrations. |
