Spring 2011 March 9, 2011 PLANT AND SOIL SCIENCES SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Attendees: The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am. Old Business The safety report for 302 Worrilow (Donofrio lab) is not completed. The Sparks labs, 101 and 104, still need SOPs. Some equipment in the soils testing lab needs to be removed (grinder, etc.). Karen Gartley will update her safety report. The Vasilas lab still needs to be removed from the incomplete safety report list. Jenny McDermott has asked that facilities remove it, and Bruce Vasilas will follow up on this request. Caroline Golt will remove empty gas cylinder, moldy tile, and mercury thermometers. The training in the Kitto lab is still not completed. Battery problem with the emergency light in the Fisher Greenhouse has been fixed. Biological registration for all labs (research and teaching) has been sent to Krista Murray. New Business Spring inspections will include labs, main building inspections in Townsend and Worrilow Halls and the Wilson Farmhouse as follows:
No accidents or incidents were reported since the last meeting. A fire drill will be scheduled in June. Deb Jaisi, new faculty member, is reconfiguring his lab and moving out some existing equipment. Krista Murray asked to be notified of any areas of concern, and mentioned that the fan in his lab fume hood may need to be replaced. EHS Announcements Kevin Eichinger is gone. Please contact Krista Murray if you need help with anything he was responsible for. She will steer you to the correct person. The search has been completed to replace him and interviews are being scheduled. Bio-safety cabinets will be recertified by EHS and the vendor soon.
