Senior Information

Degree Check Out Procedures

To make sure you have completed all of the necessary requirements, you must complete a senior checkout form from your catalog year, and have it signed by your advisor, department chair, and the academic programs office. You should turn in your checksheet to the Academic Programs Office by the end of the first 2 weeks of the semester in which you plan to graduate. Make sure you work closely with your advisor when filling out this form.

Also make sure that your anticipated graduation date is correct in UDSIS; if it is not, you can make changes at that site.

If you have any questions or concerns about graduation, be sure to contact the Academic Programs Office. See also: Senior Checkout Forms

Job Search Strategies

There are many services available on campus to assist with your job search. Be sure to take advantage of these opportunities!  The Bank of America Career Services Center provides regular career workshops and job fairs. See the Academic Programs & Student Services bulletin board in Townsend Hall for information about upcoming events.

Another strategy is to network! Talk to professors, faculty advisors, and employers to find out what’s available in your field. If nothing else, these people may be able to provide excellent recommendation letters for you.

Asking for Letters of Recommendations

Ask someone who knows you well! The best recommendation letters come from those people who can talk about your specific skills and contributions.

Make sure they will write you a good recommendation letter. Do not assume that all recommendation letters will be written in your favor. If you ask for a recommendation from the professor of a course where you performed poorly or rarely attended, the professor will not hesitate to write about your poor attendance and performance.

It is okay to ask a professor or advisor specifically if s/he can write you a good recommendation. If they say no, ask someone who can write a letter attesting to your strengths and abilities.
