Agriculture and tourism are two largest industry in Sussex County. Broiler production is number one industry in the state and this county. The major crops are field corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, watermelons, muskmelons, sweet corn, and baby lima beans. Sussex County farmers also raise spinach, pickles, alfalfa, grass hays, peaches, apples, peas, snapbeans, blueberries and milo. Of the 240,000 acres of crop land about 40,000 is irrigated. The majority of the soils are sandy with 2% organic matter, but there are soils with as much as 12% organic matter.nm  necropsy
