Name: George Coombs
Hometown:
Elmer, New Jersey

Major:
Plant Biology

Goals: My career goal is to do agricultural research through either a private company like
Du Pont or Monsanto, or through a government agency like the USDA or Cooperative Extension.

Why did you choose Delaware?  I chose the University of Delaware because it is known for excellence in teaching.  Most state schools and large universities are more focused on doing research, but the University of Delaware emphasizes undergraduate education, while still providing numerous research opportunities for students.

What do you like about your experience so far? So far, my most rewarding experiences here at UD have been academic ones.  I think the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources does a great job of creating a curriculum that is both well balanced and flexible.  Students have a number of majors and minors to choose from, and there is freedom for students to further study their specific interests within the major.  The classes themselves have also been very rewarding.  The professors here really care about the students and show a genuine interest in their success.  The University of Delaware offers many other great experiences outside of the classroom, including internships and the study abroad program.  I personally have not participated in them, but many of my friends have done both internships and study abroad. They all tell me how much they enjoyed the experience, and so have persuaded me to pursue them as well.
