Name: Dusti Vanderwende
Hometown:
Greenwood, DE

Major:
Animal Science/Biotechnology
Minor: French

Activities/Clubs at UD: Honors Program, Varsity Field Hockey, Ag Ambassadors, Language Partners, Collegiate 4-H, Study Abroad

Goals: Although I am not sure of the exact occupation I am pursuing, I want to help both people and animals. I am interested in a hands-on, outdoor career that will utilize my knowledge of animals, as well as French.

Why did you choose Delaware? When I visited the University of Delaware campus for the first time and was greeted by the Ag Ambassadors and the staff in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, I was immediately attracted to the congeniality and family-like atmosphere that surrounded me. Everyone was so nice, the campus was so beautiful, and the facilities were so clean and modern, that when I returned home and continued considering where I would attend college, the only place I could picture myself was the University of Delaware.

What do you like about your experience so far? My favorite experience here was studying abroad in Martinique with the foreign language program. For a month of my freshman year, I lived with a native family, and the island became my home. I learned so much about the culture of Martinique, the French language, and my eyes were opened to a completely different way of life. It was an extraordinary trip.
