Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist
Department of Plant and Soil Sciences
College of Agricultural Sciences
University of Delaware
Mark J. VanGessel, Ph.D., North Carolina State University,
Assistant Professor/Extension Specialist, Weed/Crop Management.
Extension Emphasis
Development of integrated weed management systems for agronomic crops which consider
efficiency and impact on entire farming operations.
Research Interests
Dr. VanGessel's research interests focuses on weed biology as it relates to weed
management. Specific areas of emphasis are: influence of seed production on weed seed bank
dynamics; interaction of weeds with plant pathogens and pest insects; and growth
characteristics of troublesome weed species.
