Dongah Shin

Dongah Shin calls Republic of Korea (South Korea) home. She graduated from Dankook University with a B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture, after which she researched preservative solutions for cut flowers.  While working for a floriculture company in Korea, she became involved in converting their production greenhouses into a public garden. Soon after, she completed a Master’s degree in Horticulture with the thesis entitled Planning a Children’s Garden for Horticultural Activities Using Preference Analysis and Case Studies. Her love of public horticulture was assured with a subsequent year-long international internship at Longwood Gardens.

Dongah’s interest lies in promoting public gardens as both research and cultural institutions. For her thesis research, she is investigating the feasibility of creating a botanical garden in the region of the Korean Demilitarized Zone and Civilian Control Zone. As the only piece of undeveloped land in the Korean peninsula, this area represents de facto preservation of many unique ecosystems.
