Barnabas Seyler hails from Walkersville, Maryland, where his love for horticulture blossomed after he began his first rock garden. During high school, his love for horticulture grew while volunteering at a local nature center and working at a local nursery, both for more than five years. Attending the University of Delaware (UD) as an undergraduate, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in May of 2007 with a double major in Landscape Horticulture and Plant Science, as well as a concurrent Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies and minors in Philosophy and Plant Biology. Barnabas served three years as President of the Horticulture Club at UD while an undergraduate, and completed both a horticulture internship at Biltmore Estate and an indoor display internship here at Longwood Gardens. He also developed a strong interest in international horticulture while participating in a study abroad trip to China.
Barnabas has a keen passion for fostering an enjoyment of horticulture in others as well. He is excited about the many opportunities afforded by the Longwood Graduate Program and intends to focus his research on international collaboration between horticultural institutions in China and their counterparts in the United States.
