Dover - Delaware law enforcement officers arrested 4 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol during week 13 of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign. Participating agencies included the Sussex County DUI Task Force, and Delaware State Police Troop 7. Officers from DSP Troops 9 and 6 also conducted roving DUI patrols.
In addition to the DUI arrests last weekend, officers also made 3 drug arrests, issued 15 citations for seat belt violations, 1 child restraint violation and 55 other traffic offenses.
Last weekend's DUI arrests bring the total of arrests since the campaign's July 1 kickoff to 296. Three more sobriety checkpoints are scheduled for this coming weekend.
"Checkpoint Strikeforce" is a multi-state crackdown on impaired drivers coordinated locally by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. The states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia are conducting weekly DUI checkpoints between July 1, 2005 and January 1, 2006, with the goal of at deterring impaired drivers and arresting DUI offenders.
