292 Arrested for DUI During First Half of
Checkpoint Strikeforce
Campaign

Dover - Delaware Law enforcement officers have arrested 292 individuals for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol during the first three months of the "Checkpoint Strikeforce" campaign. This includes 21 DUI arrests that were made at checkpoints conducted last weekend (Sept. 16, 17) by Delaware State Police Troops 4 and 5, and the Kent, Sussex County and New Castle County DUI Task Forces, and 1 DUI arrest made by Troopers from DSP Troop 6 conducting roving patrols.

In addition to the 292 DUI arrests made since the campaign began on July 1st, officers have issued 57 citations for underage drinking violations, apprehended 98 wanted individuals, made 138 drug arrests, made 61 felony arrest, recovered 11 stolen vehicles issued 36 citations for child restraint violations, 235 for seat belt violations and 968 citations for other traffic violations.

Three more sobriety checkpoints and additional roving DUI patrols are scheduled for this coming weekend.

"Checkpoint Strikeforce" is a multi-state crackdown on impaired drivers coordinated locally by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. The states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia are conducting weekly DUI checkpoints between July 1, 2005 and January 1, 2006, with the goal of at deterring impaired drivers and arresting DUI offenders.
