Risk Assessments
It is important for you to know that EPA is conducting a risk assessment on a particular pesticide, because this means that there may be label restrictions in the future for this product. During the risk assessment period, you may make comments to EPA if you think label restrictions will impose a hardship on production of a commodity.
Reregistration eligibility decisions
It is important for you to know that EPA is conducting a reregistration study on a particular pesticide, because this means that there may be label restrictions in the future for this product. During the reregistration period, you may make comments to EPA if you think label restrictions will impose a hardship on production of a commodity.
Pesticide Tolerance Actions, Registration Applications, Registration Approvals
After a tolerance has been established, the registrant decides if the commodity/site will be put on the label. Having a tolerance does not automatically mean you can use the chemical. Even when a pesticide has been registered by EPA, you can not use the product until the commodity/site is on the label in your hand. Always read the pesticide label before applying!

Purpose: This notice announces EPA's order for the cancellations voluntarily requested by the registrant Bayer CropScience and accepted by the Agency, of products containing the pesticide amitraz. This cancellation order follows a March 17, 2004 Federal Register Notice of Receipt of Requests from the amitraz registrant to voluntarily cancel all uses of its Ovasyn Insecticide/Miticide and Mitac W Insecticide product registrations. These are not the last amitraz products registered for use in the United States, but are the last amitraz products for the use sites of cotton and pears. The Agency received no comments regarding the cancellation of Ovasyn Insecticide/Miticide and M!itac W Insecticide. Further, the registrant did not withdraw its requests. Accordingly, EPA hereby issues in this notice a cancellation order granting the requested cancellations. Any distribution, sale, or use of the amitraz products subject to this cancellation order is permitted only in accordance with the terms of this order, including any existing stocks provisions.

EPA Signs MOU with Edison Electric and Federal Agencies to Reduce Pesticide Use on Rights-of-Way
EPA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Edison Electric Institute and five federal agencies to establish sound Integrated Vegetation Management practices in order to reduce adverse impacts to the environment and the public while ensuring reliable electrical service.
Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) practices reduce the need for pesticides, promote healthy ecosystems, and provide measurable results, such as greater natural species diversity along rights-of-ways and better control of invasive species. IVM also prevents wildfires around utility rights-of-way and improves power line safety and electric utility worker safety.
The federal agencies involved in the MOU include the Forest Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, and National Park Service of the Department of the Interior. The MOU will support these federal agencies by providing practical, sustainable, and cost-effective policies, procedures, and practices that will reduce risks to the environment and the public, while ensuring safe, reliable, and uninterrupted electrical services to customers.
Edison Electric Institute is the association of U. S. shareholder-owned electric companies, international affiliates and industry associates worldwide. EEI's members serve 71 percent of all electric utility customers in the nation.
The MOU complies with a White House Executive Order (13212-May 2001) for federal agencies and departments to coordinate and cooperate on energy-related projects. You can learn more about "Integrated Vegetation Management Practices Around Utility Rights-of-Way" and the MOU at http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/grants/eei_integrated_mgmt.htm . A copy of the MOU is available at http://www.eei.org/ .
