ServSafe ® Training in 2000

Outbreaks of food borne illness due to contamination with microorganisms is preventable. An estimated 6.5 to 12.6 million Americans have food poisoning each year.

Foodborne outbreaks often happen because food preparers are not aware of potential problems caused by improper food-handling procedures. Improper food-handling may occur in a restaurant, fire hall, church, an occasional food establishment or the home.

Participants will learn how to handle food correctly to minimize the risk of foodborne illness.

Food-Service Professionals ServSafe

The course is designed for foodservice professionals wanting to obtain food safety certification with emphasis throughout the course on using a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HAACP) based approach. Cost is$100 for 18 hours of training, book and certification examination from the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association (NRA). A certificate from the NRA will be awarded to students who satisfactorily complete the course and receive a passing grade on the exam. instructors are on the National Restaurant Association's approved ServSafe trainer list.

ServSafe® Recertification Course

This course is designed as a refresher course in food service sanitation for those who have already been certified in NRA's ServSafe(& course. The 7-hour training will provide an update of information based on the new food code, HACCP and review the essentials in keeping food safe. The exam recertifies the taker for another 3 years. The cost of $60.00 covers a textbook, materials and exam.

Professional & Volunteer Food Preparers: Keep Food Safe

Training is a 3-hour training using the video "Food Safety is No Mystery," interactive activities and discussion. This is a good training for the general food service worker. Cost is $5 per individual. Classes may be arranged at your facility for groups of 15 or more.

To register for a class, obtain additional information or our 2000 schedule of classes, contact the appropriate University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Office. ServSafe (R) recertification classes will be offered in 2000.
