4-H Embryology

What is Embryology?

classroom embryology story linkHere’s a real-life classroom story!

The 4-H Embryology Program gives children of all ages a hands-on experience in hatching chickens. This is a learning activity that kids remember for years!

Results

Since 1972, the program has grown to reach some 4,500 science students each year. Teachers report that incubators in the classrooms are ideal for engaging and maintaining student interest. The hatching experience complements the instructional goals for life sciences curriculum in public, private, and home-school settings.

How to Join in the Fun and Learning

  1. Schedule eggs and incubators for your classroom at least six weeks in advance.
  2. The incubation and study period in your classroom lasts one week.
  3. Deliveries are made on Mondays, with hatch to occur on Wednesday or Thursday.
  4. Chicks are returned to Cooperative Extension on Friday.

For more information or to schedule a program, contact Pam Stegall-Roberts or call her at 302-831-8866 to leave a voice-mail message. Be prepared to give your name, daytime and evening phone numbers, school name, and desired date for program.
