This year the 4-H members take a stand once again to help fight against youth smoking. On October 7th 2000, New Castle County 4-H began the youth smoking prevention program called Health Rocks. The curriculum focuses primarily on youth from ages 8-12 in an Afterschool environment.

The program is intended to teach a wide range of children from all different backgrounds and environments. The Health Rocks Program is intended to help children make decisions for themselves based on what they know about life skills. Stress reduction, communication, and self-esteem are just some of the skills taught during the program.

The Health Rocks Program is unique in that it helps youth build valuable life skills while making their own informed decisions as to why they shouldn't smoke.

This program has been funded by the Department of Services for Children Youth and Their Families, Office of Prevention and Early Intervention, and through the Department of Health and Social Services.
