What are Cloverbuds?

A 4-H Program for Youth in Grades K-2

What are 4-H Cloverbuds?

Cloverbuds are 5- to 7-year-olds involved in a companion activity to the traditional 4-H program. Cloverbuds learn by doing in this informal, non-competitive, educational program conducted by the 4-H component of Delaware Cooperative Extension. The purpose of Cloverbuds is to help children get along with each other, to explore many interests, to practice skills, and to build self-confidence and self-esteem through healthy, cooperative learning experiences.

Cloverbud Clubs

Cloverbud meetings

Cloverbud clubs meet in members' homes or neighborhood locations. Meetings, which are conducted informally by parent leaders, typically are held twice a month, but can be held more often if desired. Cloverbud meetings usually last an hour and include pledges, songs, games, learning activities, and a snack.

4-H curriculum and training are provided to interested parents at no cost.

What do Cloverbuds do?

In addition to regular club activities, Cloverbuds participate in a number of county 4-H activities, including the Delaware State Fair.

Because the 4-H Cloverbud program is non-competitive, the youngsters are not evaluated on their efforts, but they are recognized with a ribbon for participation.

Special Cloverbud day camps for 5- to 7-year-olds are held in each county during the summer.

 Who sponsors Cloverbuds?

The 4-H Cloverbud program is sponsored and operated under the auspices of the 4-H program of Delaware Cooperative Extension, University of Delaware and Delaware State University .
