Genus Dictyonia Uhler, 1889

Overview - Dictyonia Uhler

Family Tropiduchidae

Subfamily Tambiniinae Kirkaldy, 1907

Gaetuliini Fennah, 1978 (sensu Gnezdilov 2007)

(Note: Historically part of Issidae [e.g., Fennah 1954]; subsequently transferred to Nogodinidae [Fennah 1984], then to Tropiduchidae [Gnezdilov 2007]).

Genus Dictyonia Uhler, 1889

Type species (in original combination):  Dictyonia obscura Uhler, 1889.

Synonyms: none.

Distribution: Western USA (California, Washington)

Recognized species

There is a single species recognized in the genus:

Dictyonia obscura Uhler, 1889 - USA: CA, WA
   = Dictyonia pyschodimorpha Bliven, 1966: 103; syn. by O’Brien 1988a: 868.

Economic Importance:

Limited.

Known host plants

None reported.

Hosts from Wilson et al. (1994); plant names from USDA PLANTS or Tropicos.

Recognition:

Dictyonia can be recognized among the Gaetuliini by the forewings covering the abdomen (vs. Danepteryx or Osbornia); wing nearly as wide as long and semicircular in shape, costal margin decidedly rounding; forewings tegmina partly opaque, usually with an oblique hyaline band across clavus and corium; forewings almost as broad as long (vs. semicircular in Dictyssa) , held almost vertically, cells of corium exceptionally few and large and distinctly angular.

Dictyonia is here on Bugguide, and (should be) here on Discover Life (but at this point links to a fungus of the same name).

Collecting

Dictyonia is collected by inspecting likely host plants or sweeping.

Molecular resources: As of this writing, data for Dictyonia is not available on Genbank or on Barcode of life.
