Genus Tylanira Ball, 1936

Type species (in original combination):  Tylanira bifurca Ball, 1936.

Synonyms: None.

 

Distribution: Southwestern US and Mexico.

 

Recognized species

There are two species currently assigned to this genus.

Tylanira ustulata (Uhler, 1876) - USA: AZ, CO, NM; Mexico (Tiburón Island)

Limited.

Known host plants

Tylanira bifurca - Prosopis sp. (mesquite, Fabaceae)

Tylanira ustulata - Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC.

Hosts from Wilson et al. 1994; plant names from USDA PLANTS or Tropicos.

Recognition:

Hind wings absent or rudimentary, body elongate (not rounded as in Paralixes), wings not strongly reticulate; intermediate carinae of front present, raised; Vertex deeply emarginate at apex forming lateral triangular projections inclined upward.

This genus is not present on Bugguide.

Collecting

Adults are evidently taken sweeping or beating.

Molecular resources: There are no data for this genus on Genbank; Barcode of Life has data for Tylanira ustulata.
