New World Species

Taxonomy and nomenclature of New World delphacid species

A checklist of New World delphacid species.

The higher taxonomy presented here follows that of Asche (1985, 1990) as modified by Urban et al. (2010).  Emeljanov (1996) and Hamilton (2006) differ in presenting only two or three subfamilies with the remainder reduced to tribes, but their arrangement is otherwise similar.

A list of genera (as of June 1 2013) by subfamily and tribe is here: (rtf file, with author and year for genera, or rtf file, listed without author and year).

Click the link following the tribe name for a listing of the New World species in that tribe. Some genera (eventually all the genera) have links to more detailed descriptions.

The entire list in PDF format will be posted here soon. is here. (This should be the same file that is posted on the menu to the left).

A list of type species of New World delphacid genera is here.

Photos of Delphacidae on the web:

I'll try to link to these sites as appropriate, but some sites that give good photos of Delphacidae are:

British Bugs

Gernot Knuz website: Europe and Costa Rica.
