Digital library for pre-1940 planthopper literature

The Metcalf catalog ("General Catalogue of the Homoptera" or "General Catalogue of the Hemiptera") is a 42-volume work compiled by Z. P. Metcalf (See the NCSU Dr. Metcalf site). Nearly all the volumes of the Metcalf catalog are on the individual families of Auchenorrhyncha.  Some of the early volumes were originally compiled by other authors and involved other editors. For a majority of the volumes, Virginia Wade Burnside was involved in compiling, editing, and publishing many of the catalogs, especially after Metcalf passed away on 5 January 1956.  Metcalf's successor, David Young edited and published the last several volumes.

Each volume of the Metcalf catalog provides an exhaustive synonymy for all species of the treated family beginning with Linneaus to the most recent literature at the time of publication. 

Some (many?) of the volumes of the Metcalf catalog have been scanned and now are available at the Biodiversity Heritage Library or Internet Archive.  I am going to post them here as their availability and my time allows.
