Course Information
| COURSE SCHEDULE: A
course schedule will be distributed the first class
meeting. It will include all assignments and
schedules of exams and other grading opportunities.
You are responsible for being in class and prepared for
all grade events. Exams and assignments will be
discussed in class prior to the event. I normally
attempt to schedule a review session the day before the
exam itself. OFFICE HOURS: Regular office hours are shown above and will be re-announced in the initial class meeting. Feel free to come and talk with me at any time about any topic related to the course or otherwise. Call in advance to be sure I am in the office if you come to Townsend/South campus. I am available one-half hour before and after class. I can arrange appointments outside of regular office hours. Feel free to stop by and chat anytime I am in the office. It is easier ot catch me Tuesdays & Thursdays. | ATTENDANCE: Required! How
else to better see slides, demonstrations, videos/film
strips, and join in discussion, ask questions, etc.
Exams will emphasize what is said in class -- it's
not all in the manual. Besides, I will
notice. If you must miss a class, arrange to copy
notes and get handouts, etc., from a fellow
student. I can help clarify points but am not
available to redo the entire missed lecture. TEXTS:
RESERVE READINGS:
BUTTERFLY REARING PROJECT: You will be provided with a rearing "kit," including everything you need to rear your own painted lady (Vanessa cardui) butterfly from larva to adult. Instructions will be provided. You will need to keep a journal of your observations. See Manual (page vi) for more specific information. FRIDAY QUIZZES: On a number of Fridays we will have a short quiz that will cover previous lectures. You will be able to drop the lowest quiz grade from your average (total 5 to count). FAVORITE INSECT: You will need to identify one insect (a favorite!) and provide specific information on that insect in accordance with our examination of major approaches to the Science of Entomology. See Manual page viii for details. |
