Center for Managed Ecosystems

In 2007, the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, in collaboration with the Northern Research Station of the U.S. Forest Service, initiated the Center for Managed Ecosystems. The Center is comprised of scientists who are concerned about the long-term sustainability of biodiversity in the eastern U.S. and includes members of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology, the Department of Plant and Soil Science, Stroud Water Research Center, Delaware Invasive Species Council, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Delaware Nature Society, University of Delaware Botanical Garden, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Doug Tallamy, Director

Doug Tallamy is Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology. Chief among his research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities in higher trophic levels. His current focus is to discover ways to raise the carrying capacity of suburban ecosystems so that these spaces can better sustain biodiversity in the future.

Vince D’Amico, Assistant Director

Vince D’Amico is a Research Entomologist in the US Forest Service, Northern Research Station Unit 04. He is also adjunct Faculty at the University of Delaware in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology. He researches biological control methods for invasive insects and plants, specializing in microbial control. He is currently developing new lines of research into special problems of fragmented forests in urban and suburban areas, especially on the eastern coast of the US.
