Animal Diseases with Dr. Gelb - I have always been interested in Virology and Immunology. Dr. Gelb was an excellent teacher that brought numerous clinical experiences to the classroom setting.

Tell us about your current position or program of study and what led you to that field.
I have been a small animal Veterinarian in private practice for 23 years. Being involved in 4-H and showing horses growing up fueled my interest in pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine.

How did your College of Ag experiences prepare you for your current job or post-graduate education?
The Pre-Vet/Animal Science Program provided excellent preparation to my post graduate education. My core courses were similar to other medical professional fields, but the practical experience I received in the Animal Science Department gave me an advantage to my veterinary classmates. The courses and volunteer activities at the livestock barns gave me enough background knowledge to excel in large animal courses in Veterinary School.

What advice do you have for students interested in your field?

Be knowledgeable in what the future holds in Veterinary Medicine. The profession is going through numerous changes now with technology, career choices and the challenges it now faces in the current economic situation.
