What do you like about the UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources?
I love that CANR is such a small and tightly knit community in the midst of a large University. Almost all of the classes and labs are small, and you really get to know the faculty well. I also love that it’s so easy to be a part of the Ag family - you know everyone around you has similar interests and it’s easy to connect with anyone you meet.
What is your most memorable Ag or UD experience?
My most memorable Ag experience is my PLSC 140 Plants and People course taught by Dr. Tom Evans. Although my class was mostly non-ag majors, Dr. Evans taught in a way that was easy to understand for them, yet still interesting for majors such as myself. He was always prepared and always brought in samples of different plants. He even took us out to his experimental field and showed us how to make inoculum, which we used to infect a new plot and watch the disease progress. His class really showed me a lot of what the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources had to offer, and opened up new interests for me in different areas of plant science I wasn’t aware of.
What are your career goals?
I plan to get my masters degree, and hopefully pursue a career in plant protection. I am especially interested in plant-pathogenic fungi, and I would really like to do research for the prevention of diseases caused by them that plague our farms across the country and world.
What is an interesting or unusual fact about you?
I originally wanted to attend art school, and still really enjoy painting and drawing. It’s great to have a lab-intensive major so that I can still utilize my skills sketching plant cross sections or whatever else is under the microscope.
What is your favorite book, movie, or song?
My favorite movie is Pan's Labyrinth. It’s a perfect representation of an adult fairy tale. It can be really dark sometimes, but it’s a great movie to really get lost in.
