Who is My Advisor?

To find the name of your academic advisor, log on to UDSIS and click on Academic Records & Registration. Under this option, there is a link to your official Academic Advisor with his or her contact information. The Academic Programs Office also keeps track of assigned advisors.

Remember to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to make sure you are on the right track with your degree requirements and to get advice whenever you need it.

Role of Advisor

Faculty advisors serve a multi-faceted role, acting as a general resource for all advisees. Advisors are familiar with academic and career information, and are knowledgeable about general university resources such as the Academic Enrichment Center, the Center for Counseling & Student Development, & the Bank of America Career Services Center. Faculty advisors provide information needed to complete degree requirements, including which courses to take in what sequence, how many credits should be taken each semester, and what type of activities can supplement learning. Faculty advisors can also provide advice about internships, research, potential careers, and other valuable information.

Role of Advisee

Keep in touch with your advisor! Remember that your advisor can be a valuable information source, but also a potential recommendation writer in the future. If your advisor never sees you, she/he will have nothing to write about!

Ask your advisor’s advice before registering for courses. You want to make sure that you are taking the right courses in the right order.

Make appointments in advance and go to them prepared! You will be wasting both your time and your advisor’s time if you show up to a meeting and ask your advisor to pick courses for you. Though you need to take specific courses for your major, you will have options for other requirements and electives. Take courses that interest you!
