Macromedia Flash Player Security Issue
The content of this CD is a Macromedia Flash presentation that is embedded in a web page. The video is rendered in your browser using the flash player. If you do not have the flash player installed, you can download it from:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash and install it on your computer.
Depending on the version of the flash player that you have installed on your computer, you are likely to face certain issues while viewing the video on this CD.
You can check your flash player version by going to:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507
If it is later than version 8, you might have to follow the procedure described below so that things work as expected.
Versions 8 and onward come with a new set of security measures which restrict the access of certain local and online content from within flash videos, by default. For this CD you are viewing the flash video locally, and as a result you might be blocked from accessing URL's and also certain unexpected behavior might be observed while viewing the flash video. This is not an error, but is actually a result of the security restrictions being imposed by the flash player.
Therefore, in order to be sure that your CD content is displayed properly, you will have to modify a security setting in the flash player to make it "trust" the content on your CD so that it does not impose any restrictions on its ability to playback properly. See the following procedures.
Procedure for modifying your security settings
- Go to the following URL http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html
- This opens up the “Flash player settings manager”. Click the 3rd tab on the top to access the “Global security settings”.
- Click Edit Locations to access the pop-up menu, select Add Location.
- A dialog box opens up so you can add your content to the list of trusted files and directories.
- To add a file or directory on your local computer, enter the location of the content in the "Trust this location" box. You can also click the "Browse for files" or "Browse for folder" buttons to navigate to the file or folder you want and click "Confirm" to accept the location. Trusting a directory also trusts its subdirectories and any content within. This is where you enter the path on your CD which contains the files related to the flash presentation.
- Once you have completed the above steps, you may refresh the content in your browser window to have the new settings take effect. The flash presentation should now work for you as expected.
