Feb.10, 2006 – Master Gardener 20 th Anniversary Lecture Series

In commemoration of 20 years of Delaware Master Gardeners, Extension volunteers who take gardening and environmental information to the public, a lecture series is being offered this spring.  The first lecture is Place-based Environmental Education: A Path to Improved Environmental Quality, Academic Achievement and Community Vitality by Robert (Bo) Hoppin, Project Director for the Antioch New England Institute. The lecture will be held Friday, Feb.10, 2006, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the New Castle County Extension office in Newark. A reception will be held 45 minutes prior to the lecture. A fee of $5. Everyone is welcome regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin.

Bo Hoppin will make a case for how and why we need place-based education as a solution to both the educational and environmental challenges we now face. Content of his presentation will be environmental educators' struggle with how to deliver meaningful curricula that meets state standards and motivates students to take positive action for their communities and the environment.
